South America and USA July 2018

Valuable cooperation in the USA

From 15 to 20 July 2018 Bernd Ruf and Reinaldo Nascimento were in Oakland/USA. In cooperation with Mills College, one of the most renowned pedagogical universities in the USA, a five-day emergency pedagogical training seminar was held at the Community School for Creative Education. The school, which is located in a socially deprived area, has been in existence for 10 years and aims to provide all children with access to high-quality education through Waldorf Education.

The successful cooperation with Mills College has existed since 2013 and will continue next year. In addition to the knowledge push, the worldwide emergency pedagogical network can thus be further consolidated and expanded. We are also very pleased about the invitation to the meeting of the American Education Research Association in Toronto in April 2019 to talk about emergency education.

Emergency pedagogical seminars in Colombia

Cali

Crime and violence are part of the everyday life of many people in Colombia. young adults get involved and are victims of stab wounds or even gunshots. In Cali, surgeons, psychologists and social workers have joined forces to treat not only the physical but also the mental wounds of the young people. This is how they try to interrupt the ongoing cirle of violence. The result: emergency pedagogical at the sickbed and social work at the scene of the incident. The emergency pedagogical team supports the unique work with further training of local specialists.

The University "Universidad Corporativa Cali" is working on several projects with the displaced population in the neighbourhood of Cali. Now the emergency pedagogical training in the Faculty of Psychology has begun and the first capacity building has been carried out to prepare the teams for emergency pedagogical interventions.

Medellin

Guerillas and combatants en Colombia  handed in their weapons and live in so called “Resocialization Camps”.
Our partner, the University of Medellin, provides them with reconciliation programs and psychosocial support through theater, arts, dance and more. In the host community, Bernd Ruf conducted counselling sessions for parents and talked about trauma in child and how to deal with it at home and in classrooms.
